The four blue flags are already flying on the beaches of Nerja and Maro

Burriana beach was the scene today of the official act of raising the blue flag, which this year is also flying in Torrecilla, Maro and El Playazo-Chucho. In total, the beaches of the municipality have four blue flags, one more than last year.

The mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, and the provincial delegate for Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Junta de Andalucía, Gema del Corral, participated in the event. The Councilor for Security, Francisco Arce, the Councilor for Beaches, Mari Carmen López, and the Councilor for Tourism, Ana María Muñoz, also attended.

In his speech, José Alberto Armijo indicated that "we continue to work in the right direction to strengthen the tourism brand with regard to the offer of sun and sand and these flags represent recognition of the quality of the waters, services and security".

He highlighted, in addition to the good condition of the beaches, "another aspect as important as security, which has increased compared to previous years with a total of 40 lifeguards, three coordinators and 3 boat skippers, without forgetting the role of coordinating Civil Protection and Local Police.

José Alberto Armijo made an appeal to the Junta de Andalucía to continue with the line of collaboration maintained until now and at the same time demanded that the Central Government ?be involved as it should, within the scope of its powers, to improve our beaches?.

Gema del Corral congratulated the mayor and his government team on behalf of the Junta de Andalucía ?for making it possible for us to renew, and even extend, these awards to the beaches of Nerja?. He added that the important thing is not to get blue flags, "but to maintain them and grow."

He pointed out that, to obtain the blue flags "there is an incredible effort and a real commitment to sustainability, something that Nerja has been demonstrating, not only in its beach policy, but also in its urban policy" and recalled that recently "we announced this subsidy of 5 million euros, through the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plans and that Nerja has been a beneficiary thanks to the great work that it has been doing with its mayor at the helm?.

He ended by reiterating the Board's commitment to Nerja "a municipality that is an example in every way."
