After almost a year closed due to the pandemic due to the risk of agglomerations, the Nerja City Council has decided to reopen the recreational area of El Pinarillo, located in the natural park of the Sierras Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama, with access from the Cave from Nerja. It is a natural space in which there are facilities such as barbecues, a playground and picnic areas, and from which several walking routes start to the summit of the peaks of the Sierra Nerja.

The Councilor for the Environment, Javier Rodríguez (PP), has announced in a statement the decision of the City Council to lift the ban on access to and use of this natural enclave. The measure will be effective as of the afternoon of this holiday Monday, All Saints' Day, with the opening of the barrier located around the Cueva de Nerja, after the end of the seventh edition of the Almijara Trail race.

"Given the progress in vaccination, the improvement in contagion data, the low incidence, and therefore the decrease in the level of health alert, from the City Council we consider that it is no longer necessary to maintain the aforementioned prohibition of access to this recreational area, "the councilor argued in a statement. Of course, the measure is adopted "without prejudice to the powers that may correspond to other public administrations, especially the Junta de Andalucía, given the location of said area within the Natural Park of the Sierras Tejeda, Alhama and Almijara," he added.

"Last November 2020, a ban on access to this municipal recreational area was decreed in order to avoid crowds and protect people's health from the pandemic situation caused by Covid-19," the councilor recalled.
