The project for Rincón de la Victoria to have a pioneering dinosaur park in Spain, presented for the first time in the summer of 2019, continues, despite the difficulties and setbacks it has encountered in recent years due to the pandemic. Thus, the promoters of the initiative that will be developed in the Parque Victoria urbanization, to the north of La Cala del Moral, are finalizing a series of technical modifications to the project, which includes an investment of more than 3.6 million euros.
This has been confirmed to SUR by the representative of the company Paalwin Park S. L, Aprile Winterstein, who has said that they are "working hard, in coordination with the City Council, to move it forward, after the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. 19?, this businesswoman based in Rincón de la Victoria has added. Thus, although the time planning has varied, investors are still interested in completing the action in the coming years. "There is total interest from investors, we have been improving things, because over time and the Covid we have had to change things," he stated.
However, Winterstein did not want to specify when the first phase of the project can finally be launched. "We hope it will be very soon, we are with technical issues due to height and to comply with the Environment," said the representative of the company Paalwin Park SL, who declined to clarify whether they are already paying the annual fee that was stipulated in the concession granted in 2019, of 747,175 euros for the 25 years initially planned.
When it was presented three and a half years ago, it was announced that it would be a theme park with dinosaurs and zip lines, unique in Andalusia. To make this possible, the City Council held a contest to grant a public concession for land located in the aforementioned area of Parque Victoria. The project has a private investment of 3,611,850 euros. Specifically, a public concession for the land of plot VP4, located in the UR sectors, was approved. C-1 and UR. C-2 of the Parque Victoria urbanization, to the north of the motorway, in La Cala del Moral, for the operation of the future park for the next 25 years.
From the signing of the contract, the company had four months to present the project for the execution of the works, a term that has been extended. Once presented, it was initially stipulated that the works should be completed in 20 months. The second phase, that of the zip lines, would begin in the fifth year of the concession, in 2024. "This theme park will be a tourist attraction with educational elements based on the world of dinosaurs, where both adults and children will be able to actively enjoy of his time?, assured the corner mayor, Francisco Salado (PP) in the presentation.
Thus, the also president of the Provincial Council stressed that this project "was born with the vocation of becoming the best-known family park in the province." "Our goal is to become the first choice for parents when planning their children's leisure time in Malaga," Salado added, also highlighting "the commitment to promoting tourism in the town and the development of this area." . The Councilor for Town Planning, Miguel Ángel Jiménez (PP), highlighted, for his part, the investment that will be carried out in the area, 3,611,850 euros, "one of the most ambitious private investments that have been made in the municipality in recent years".
Another aspect highlighted by the mayor was the creation of jobs, "which will be 42 in high season and 21 in low season." In this sense, the councilor said that "the growth in the number of visitors entails a qualitative and quantitative development in indirect jobs, due to increased turnover, within the local business sector."
Criticism of the PSOE
People who visit the theme park, with an area of 68,397.97 square meters, will enjoy the replicas of 35 dinosaurs, 19 life-size and 16 with mobility. The enclosure will also have a hiking route characteristic of the Jurassic era in southern Europe, as well as recreational spaces with other recreational elements; a playground with games for children and a water area; excavation spaces for small archaeologists, restaurants and tapas kiosks.
There will also be a viewpoint with a photographic point, a souvenir shop and a scientific exhibition at the entrance to the park. In addition, activities and services for adults and children such as face painting, entertainers and tattoo artists will be offered. The entrance will be free access in part of the facilities and green areas. The park will offer temporary attractions on different festive dates of the year such as Halloween, Christmas or Easter, as well as school vacation programs, among others. The attraction will remain open throughout the year, except in the low season, when opening hours will be reduced. The area will offer up to 183 parking spaces.
When the contract was presented, it was also announced that the Rincón de la Victoria City Council would receive a canon of 747,175 euros for 25 years. The price of tickets will range between 17.5 and 20 euros. There will be 20 percent discounts for people with disabilities and school groups made up of a minimum of 20 people, with free admission for children under three years of age.
The initiative, which had the support of the plenary session for its declaration as of municipal interest in April 2021, has been rejected by the main opposition party, the PSOE. The Socialists denounced in May 2021 that this project was going to "aggravate" the problems of urbanization, such as the lack of parking and traffic jams, by having a single entrance from the highway.
