The unfolding of the Carretera del Arco, the A-356, as it passes through the municipality of Vélez-Málaga, especially in the section between the highway and the El Trapiche junction, is a project that adds several years of delays and non-compliance of promises. Its execution corresponds to the Junta de Andalucía. Both the previous socialist government and the current one, of PP and Cs, have promised it. However, it still does not run.

For this reason, the Local Government Board has urged the regional Administration to carry out this key action to decongest a road that supports a high traffic density, due to the boom in the agri-food sector in the area. In addition, it has also agreed to request the Ministry of the Environment to act in the improvement and conditioning of the left bank of the Lagos river, as detailed by the mayor, the socialist Antonio Moreno Ferrer, the first deputy mayor, Jesús Pérez Atencia (GIPMTM ), and the deputy mayor of Mezquitilla and Lagos, Juan García (GIPMTM).

The councilor explained that the one known as Carretera del Arc ', the A-356 that connects the municipalities of Vélez-Málaga and Casabermeja, is a very busy road «since it represents a detour between the A-45 highway and this area of the Costa del Sol passing through a part of our municipality, specifically through El Trapiche, Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar, which is why the execution of such a necessary unfolding is requested ».

The Veleño councilor stressed that "according to the latest studies carried out, around 28,000 vehicles circulate on this road daily in the section of our municipality, of which more than 4% are heavy vehicles." This increase in circulation is mainly due to the great expansion that the subtropical cultivation is having, especially mango and avocado, to the opening of a large number of companies and cooperatives that derive from this sector, and to the start-up of the Tecnoalimentario Park of the Axarquía.

At the end of last year, some works to improve the pavement between kilometer points 40 and 48 were completed, specifically the road surface was reinforced and the vertical signage was improved, carried out by the Junta de Andalucía and financed by the European Regional Development Fund, «but We understand that this is not the solution to decongest the circulatory flow of this section, for a few years the problem has been increasing, and the competent administration must give due response in order to speed up the procedures so that said problem is definitively solved », Said the regidor.

For his part, García explained that from the Local Government Board "we continue to demand improvements that correspond to the Junta de Andalucía and that directly affect the neighbors." In this case, it has also been approved to urge the Ministry of the Environment to carry out actions to improve and adapt the lane on the left bank of the Lagos river.

«A road whose abandonment is notorious, receiving daily complaints from users in the Mayor's Office of Mezquitilla and Lagos about the difficulty involved in traveling and a situation that worsens every time it rains, with the damage that this entails for those who have to use it forcibly to get to their places of residence or work, "he said. Therefore, a draft action is necessary in said lane to give a definitive solution. "It is not acceptable that a road with so much traffic generates these difficulties and creates a disadvantaged situation for these people," added the mayor.

Flood risk

?We also propose to the Board several alternative options in this regard. In the first place, that it carries out the improvement and conditioning of the road; as a second option, that they carry out a more ambitious project to adapt the area as they have done previously in the Güi de Torrox river and in the Algarrobo river and, finally, that they authorize us, if not, the City Council so that we can act freely » he explained.

For this last option, "and as a sign of the commitment and willingness of the government team, we have a budget of 200,000 euros to allocate to the adaptation and improvement of this path," said the deputy mayor, who ended by explaining that in the next days they will request a meeting with the territorial delegate "to jointly prepare a chronology of actions and solve this problem once and for all."

Likewise, in the last week the granting of five building licenses has been approved, among which the concession for the construction of a warehouse in the center of El Trapiche, as well as the approval of the project for the execution of the works of the perimeter wall, stands out. defense against the flooding of the Tecnoalimentario Park, all this "to promote urban development and the generation of wealth and local employment," said the councilor.

The granting of five licenses to open new businesses in the municipality and the renewal of nine authorizations for the occupation of public roads with tables and chairs for different hospitality businesses has also been approved, "which also contributes to the economic reactivation of the business fabric local and job creation ?, highlighted Moreno Ferrer. Likewise, several minor contracts have been given the green light focused on the adaptation, improvement and maintenance of different sports facilities in the municipality, as well as schools and beaches.

The Deputy Mayor of Torre del Mar and the mayor of the Environment, on the canine beach. / SOUTH The dog beach, ready again after the damage caused by the storms Dog owners in the Axarquía are once again in luck. The First Deputy Mayor of Vélez-Málaga and Beaches Councilor, Jesús Pérez Atencia (GIPMTM), and the Environment Councilor, Antonio Ariza (GIPMTM), announced on Monday the completion of the conditioning work on the `` canine beach Torre del Mar, the first in Andalusia with the 'Q' certification for tourism quality, after the damage caused by the last eastern storms. «The beach is now open to the public again after an important series of works after the last storms. Throughout the winter, spring and especially in recent months, there have been several eastern storms that have hit this area of the coast, leaving this area with hardly any beach. That is why we have been carrying out sand replacement work, equipment repair and especially improving access, which was cut off in the La Laguna lane due to the storm, ?the mayor has detailed. Pérez Atencia recalled that «the Canina beach of Torre del Mar, recognized by the Junta de Andalucía and certified with the 'Q' for Quality, is one of the most visited in the province. That is why we believe it must be in optimal conditions so that all users can enjoy the experience with their pets. The mayor concluded by stating that "since its opening, this beach has become" a benchmark for pet tourism ", which has placed Torre del Mar in all the guides of this type nationwide. "We will continue working to continue making the coastline of our municipality a benchmark on the Costa del Sol for its services, security, equipment and unbeatable climate," he added. On the other hand, the Ategrus firm has awarded Vélez-Málaga its 'Escoba de Plata' award for a project of 'Municipal Environmental Certificate'. The 'Escobas' Contest is held within the Ategrus initiative for supporting, rewarding and disseminating waste management and urban cleaning, as well as the development of projects and the development of technologies that allow sustainable management. This contest has been running since 1987. The first edition was convened by the European Union within the European Year of the Environment and its organization in Spain was entrusted to Ategrus, a national member of the ISWA (International Solid Waste Association).
